New Building
We're now moved into our spaking new, $21 million Provincial Training Centre & Administration Building at 15210 123 Avenue in Edmonton! The building was officially opened on September 12 and 13 by Douglas J McCarron, UBC's General President.
Thousands of people, including members and their families and the general public, toured the building during our opening weekend, September 12-14.
The building includes more than 30,000 square feet of top-quality training space for scaffolding, carpentry, millwrighting other allied trades. There are two 3-storey tall scaffolding training shops (one equipped with exposed girders for hanging scaffolding instruction), a large carpentry shop and Alberta's first Millwright Training Centre. The Millwright shop features a multi-million-dollar hydrogen gas compressor donated by Petro-Canada.
The building incorporates what is to date Alberta's largest geothermal heating and cooling system, involving 110 boreholes, each to a depth of 200 feet. We expect to save a great deal of money on our heating/air conditioning system.
